Digital healthcare company with physical healthcare clinics, Doktor.se has secured €29.5 million in funding from Chinese technology conglomerate, Tencent Holdings.
Tencent is investing in Doktor.se as an extension of the earlier round and on the same terms. They will invest €29.5 million, out of which €23 million will be new capital and €6.5 million from existing shareholders.
The earlier round was led by Consensus Asset Management and included Norron and Skabholmen Invest, among others. Several of Doktor.se’s existing investors also participated.
WHY IT MATTERS
Doktor.se aims to improve healthcare worldwide, making it more efficient, more accessible and more affordable.
The startup employs nurses, specialist nurses, general practitioners, specialist doctors, psychologists, counsellors and physiotherapists at its digital and physical healthcare centres.
Currently, Doktor.se’s telemedicine platform is used in countries across Europe through veterinary care chain AniCura, in Belgium through a partnership with telecommunications group Proximus and in Brazil with the digital healthcare provider ViBE.
The investment will go towards furthering this international expansion, developing its technical platform to offer improved services for mental health and chronic illnesses, and expanding its digital operations and physical clinics.
The company is currently focusing on building on its success in Sweden where it is used by one-tenth of the population. The startup also plans to keep expanding its digi-physical services by acquiring physical healthcare services to integrate into its digital platforms.
THE LARGER CONTEXT
Last month, Doktor.se announced a €50 million funding boost to develop its technical platform for mental health and chronic illnesses.
In the Netherlands, Xsens has launched an Automatic Reporting feature for physiotherapists, health specialists and ergonomic consultants, which presents complex movement data in an accessible report.
